Services - Competitive Rates
At GLS(LPO), we have a diverse range of billing arrangements. We focus on providing a tailor made arrangement as far as rates/fees are concerned in relation to the client's specific needs and requirements for the work or project involved.

At GLS(LPO) we believe that Payment of services should be based on the value addition done by the service provider rather than the number of hours the person has spent in courtship with the project. An important consideration for GLS(LPO) in the pricing of an outsourcing project is identifying and understanding how the project is adding value for the client. If the need arises, we will rework the legal product till it has met the client's expectations. We also negotiate with the client as to the typical time spent on a particular legal product and set expectations. Our billings never exceed this negotiated yardstick.

More commonly, we at GLS(LPO) we choose Unit billing which offers clients a straightforward, transparent relationship between the price paid and the product received. For instance, for a contract review project, GLS(LPO) provides transaction-based pricing (per contract). The contract would also specify timelines for completion of the work. This arrangement allows our client to predict their overall project costs and set the appropriate delivery date expectations with their internal teams.

For work billed by the hour, GLS(LPO) focuses on in-house checks to ensure that maximum output helps keep clients happy. GLS(LPO) goes as far as scrutinizing the time-record which is carried out either by our Head of Operations or by the Directors to determine if the work done justifies the time spent. If we feel that extra time [by industry standards] was spent on any particular aspect, we use our discretion to cut down on the hours.

Alternatively, flat fees for a project are an attractive option for routine tasks. This method ensures that the client budgets for our services plus has the freedom to seek clarifications or follow up without being charged for it. This billing method is relevant for clients who have a consistent need for certain work whereby there is a possibility that the volume of work may scale up and down at any given month. For instance, when the work involves high-end research and the per-hour price is almost three times the normal price of review, it is in our clients' best interests that we offer them a flat fee billing method. The client under this method further benefits from a lot of unpredictability in the billing pattern. At GLS(LPO), we are sensitive to the client's requirements for getting high quality at low cost.

Where full integration of our personnel with the client's processes makes sense which leads to overall improvements in efficiencies, such as contract management and drafting, we use the full time equivalent (FTE) model. This billing model appeals to clients who, in effect, want an LPO staff member to replace an in-house staff member. Under the FTE model, GLS(LPO) works as an extension of the client's team – the client is effectively charged as if they were paying the salaries of a team in Mauritius.

At GLS(LPO) we also use the monthly retainer or minimum monthly commitment (MMC) model which entails a
commitment of hours or units in a month without reference to the concept of dedicated personnel constituting the
equivalent of a client employee.

Finally and most important of all is that at GLS(LPO) we value the length of the relationship we have established with our clients and take into consideration the particular needs of the client. While clients need to be aware of different billing methods and their features, what really matters is how the particular agreement can be negotiated and modified so as to ensure that work is delivered to the required specification and quality.
